Output help fro Newbie....

totally new to video, long time still photographer using PS and lots of other graphics apps. I'm working my way through learning the beginnings of Vegas Studio Platinum (still on demo), but having trouble with output. My test looks fine in Vegas--as it was shot, but after rendering and I get the message 'play', (forgot to say "I'm a PC" LOL), it opens in Media Player and is very dark. I've googled and found this isn't unusual--and I can adjust, but I would like to view (I save to disk and will upload to maybe Vimeo or Youtube) as it will look on those sites. Am I doing something wrong with my output--or is there another viewer to try? Or--assume that my output will look as the preview (at best/full) in Vegas when uploaded???

I'm having my issues figuring out what to upload from Vimeo's FAQs but will work my way through. AND--I will buy a book that has been recommended--I understand that there is no 9 version out yet so will buy the 8 version that was suggested (on another forum).

Thanks for any help, tips. I'm using the 'show me' tips now and the basics for working with it are making sense (if you are a long time PS user, it helps I suspect LOL), but lots and LOTS to learn. The output, though, is my first real problem.

Thank you. That's very helpful. Update:---my output is fine. Evidently is an MS Media Player issue (and I did read quite a bit about it on the web). I only wanted to use it for a 'pre' viewer, but now I'll trust the Vegas preview.

Diane, don't waste your money on the book, it is very skimpy on the subject of output. As for WMP, ditch that and download the free VLC Player software. Handles more formats and has more flexibility, like allowing you to pick bob or linear deinterlacing during playback.

VLC also does a shed-load of other stuff too - like streaming and pvr...

The only thing it can't do is play Cineform files due to licensing issues.
