9.0d reading media for import v.slow

Just put 9 on an older dual core machine and have noticed that it lags when importing project media.

Even hovering the mouse pointer over the file name in List view can take up to a minute to get the pop up info bubble. Actually selecting a file can take up to 2 mins before it adds it. The files in question are Cineform Intermediate AVI rushes.

This problem does not manifest itself in 7 or 8 for example.

Does 9 read media from Hard Drives differently on dual core machines and if so is there any way to correct this? or is this to do with older Cineform Codec incompatibility by chance?

many thanks in advance

This is a well know problem with 9.0d and has been reported by several disgruntled users.
All we can do is wait for another update.

Thanks Mike - considering how significant an issue it is you've got to wonder why Sony have not addressed it sooner, as that's precisely the sort of irritating nuicance that leads people away to other NLEs.

Do some people not experience it then? It would be interesting to hear from people that don't experience this and try to find out why.

Could you try if this helps:

CineForm codec playback issues in Vegas Pro 9

For me this solves the slow import of a Vegas project (it took about 10-15 min to load a 1 hour project before replacing the file).

My only concern is if this will not lead to problems during further steps (rendering,...) as the replacement file is one whthatich is part of a prior Vegas 9 version. Does anyone have an idea about this? Or is it better to go back to 9c anyway? (Unfortunately I did not make a restore point before updating to 9d, as I was quite confident in Sony, being a new Vegas user).

Thanks for the tip Dirk,

Because I'm about to embark on a couple of projects for broadcast I simply unistalled Vegas 9 and Cineform Neoscene. The both of them were causing stability issues on my machine so they went in the bin and I went back to what I know works, which is a shame as Vegas 9 looked pretty promising from the brief look I had.
When I next get some down time though I will give that tip a try and give it(them) another chance.

I find it astonishing that such a significant problem has not been addressed by Sony if its widely known.
