Set a project to 30p

Hi all,

Just shot some footage two days ago with my DOP and we used his EX-1. It was shot in 1920x1080 30p.

Believe it or not it is the first time I use EX-1 footage in Vegas. I thought that since everything is Sony that things will go as smooth as silk. Well so far it's off to a rocky start.

I can't set the project to the native rez the footage was shot in. Looking at the template and I don't see any that is set for 30p.

So what I do is is select the "1920x1080 29,9fps" template but change the order to Progressive and set the PAR to square...Would that be the way to go for 30p or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Phil

That is what I use for Canon 7D footage shot at 30P.

Go to File - Properties, click on the "Open" button to the right of the presets list, and pick the EX1 file. The project properties should then be set to exactly match that clip.

Thanks Willard, this is just the confirmation I needed.

So you are working with the 7D, I assume you have the plugin for it as well.

How's that working for you? Are your workflows and renders smooth?

Just asking because two of my DP's might purchase it soon, so I will most likely have to edit in that format sooner than later.

Thanks,

Phil

I tried using cineform neoscene, but had frequent crashes on my system, so I am using Poduction Assistant to batch convert the 7D files to mxf 50mbps 30P files and this works extremely well for me. One could render to this format also directly from the timeline, but then the clips are all joined together or one must take the time to render each one individually. With Production Assistant you can select the files to process, select a destination folder, click process, and it does the work while you wait. One must add the template for the mxf files to Production Assistant and save it as a preset :however, as a preset for them is not included in Production Assistant.

I don't know if more experienced users will find this workflow acceptable to them or not, but it works for me, at least until I find something better that is stable on my system.

Edward: Thanks I wasn't aware of the trick.

Willard: Your workflow sounds simple enough, I will sure keep it in mind when the time will come.

Thanks both

Phil
