Mystery AVI sound file
 

I have just done a successful edit of clips taken in 2000. At the end, I am adding other clips taken in '95 on HI-8 (I think ) but it is now on a mini dv tape and plays perfectly in camera ( Sony A1-P), and also when CAPTURING in Vegas. It also plays perfectly in the PC ( i740 64b), when I simply play it via Windows Explorer. However, when I pull it up in Vegas 9 for editing, NO SOUND !!

Video is OK. The sound track shows the wave-form, yet it is as if I have the mute button on. To double check I even slid the cursor back to the previous edit which is on the SAME TRACK & it plays OK.

So, I opened it in Sound Forge and it plays perfectly. I then re-sampled it in S/F to 48k. and then pulled it back into Vegas as a separate file, on the same track but still no joy. - All originals were at 32k incl. the previous edit, I also double checked that it was the re-sampled 48K vers. which it is.

I assume that if I want to produce a DVD in DVDA with menus, I should re-sample the sound track(s) to 48k.

I am absolutely stumped.

Ron as a test, on the timeline, ungroup the problem clip and slide its audio out of the way.

Ungroup the good audio clip, copy its audio and either paste it into position on the problem clip or slide it into the same position.

If it still doesn't play, ??? Undo everything and back to the drawing board. HTH

It wasn't quite what you suggested but on doing as you suggested, I was able to see the problem.

When I dragged a good clip over the top of the bad one it played both, but only where they overlapped, and after puzzling over this for a few seconds I realised that I had the volume envelope turned way down & I had forgotten about it, being as it was, past the end of the previous clips. When I dragged the good clip over it, it lifted the vol. envelope as I had "Lock envelopes to events" switched on, - luckily.

How stupid of me to forget.

Glad you got it solved but don't feel bad. With a master audio track (or video track for that matter) if I "hide" it I forget the envelopes all the time and spend a few minuts scratching my head until I remember the envelope. Sigh, silly things.
