Anybody done this?
Now I realize that this prob can't be done all in Vegas, but does anyone have a workflow, or place to start,
suggestions? It is pretty cool. Ive got a few thoughts, but more heads have more ideas. |
That sort of thing would be done in After Effects or another compositing program and probably uses some kind of plug-in generator such as Trapcode Particular, which is commonly used for explosions, smoke, shockwaves, etc.
Then there's a few other tricks they use as well - they introduce movement to the shot, to give it a more interactive, life-like feel, and they keep the shot really short so you can't pick out any little particular details/problem areas in the effect. They also quickly cut to a clip which was shot with some practical water and lighting effects as opposed to compositing, to make the initial explosion seem less digital. Sometimes the beauty of making an effect convincing is not in the actual effect itself, but how well you cut around it to give the impression that it is real - like the good old fashioned 'cut to reaction shot of witness as person gets stabbed to death' in horror movies. It is so convincing because it gives our imagination room to move by only showing us minmal information. |

i,m going to have a go in After Effects with a Particle array,
but, just had a play for an hr in Vegas to see how far i could get, its not liquid, but, i've seen worse on TV. lol. good old Vegas :) |
just takes a great deal of money - it wasn't software, it was an actually a wall of water.....

I watched the two "Making of....." movies.
The red wall exploding is still an FX, the water hose shots are real, they show these being filmed, but I didnt see anywhere in the doco's where they exploded the wall. I've played on and off for a cpl of days now, and so far have got nowhere, lol. I'll keep trying, :) |
I gave it a try. :) I used a noise texture and a bunch of masks, added a little linear blur and got this. I inserted it into the foo fighter clip but it plays again in slow motion after that way you can see the effect better.
