Vegas to Vimeo picture squeezed

Hi All,

Currently me and one of my clients are experiencing some troubles with uploading video's shot on my PMW-EX1R and edited in Vegas to Vimeo. I render the video in Vegas as .wmv 6,7 Mbps HD1080-25p but when they do upload it to Vimeo the picture is Squeezed. An example:

[Video] Tankstation overvallen op Karel de Grotelaan | OverEindhoven.nl (Yes, it's in Dutch....)

Vimeo doesn't squeeze the picture if I do render it as .wmv 5 Mbps HD 720-25p. What am I missing?

Stupid me....... The answer was in Vimeo's FAQ...... Uploading all video's in 720p from now on....

What happens when I upload my HDV and AVCHD videos in 1440x1080?
Vimeo converts all HDV and AVCHD videos shot at 1440x1080 (aspect ratio 1.3333) to its correct and intended playback of 1280x720 (pixel aspect ratio 1.0000). What that means in English, is that 1440x1080 videos are shot in anamorphic (wide) standards instead of 16:9, and previously those videos would appear squished upon conversion to Vimeo. This change will affect anyone uploading their videos in letterbox 1440x1080, so we recommend not to letterbox videos at that aspect ratio.

What happens if I upload 1920 x 1080 footage, will Vimeo accept it?
Vimeo will accept this footage and display it at 1280x720 resolution. However for better image quality we suggest resizing your video to 1280x720 prior to uploading. Plus members have the option to upload and display footage at 1920x1080. This option can be found in the video file tab under the video settings page. Please keep in mind that currently many computers and displays cannot properly run or display footage of such high resolution.

Hi Gabor,

I normally post the video from my Sony HXR-NX5U at 1920x1080 30p MP4 video rendered at 20 Mbps with Sony Vegas Pro 10. I've been happy with the results.

Sony AVC
Audio: 192 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, 32 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080 Progressive, YUV, 20 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

Render in square pixel formats - every online video service performs more reliably with square pixel sources.

1920x1080 is square pixel.
1280x720 is, too.
1440x1080 is not.
720x480 full screen is not.
720x480 widescreen anamorphic is not.
640x480 is square pixel. (SD 4:3)
854x480 is square pixel. (SD 16:9)
640x360 is square pixel (SD 16:9)

If Vimeo is going to rerender your video to 1280x720, I think the only reason to give it 1920x1080 would be if you were going to allow download of your original.
