Best way to print HDV back to tape?

I've read some about rendering HDV to MPEG-2 and frankly I get fine results rendering straight from the Vegas timeline.

My issue is want to print back to tape for archive. Should I just select my loop region and choose the print to tape option or render to a third party codec AVI and print that file? If so, which codec seems to work best for this?

Re: Best way to print HDV back to tape?

have to ask why?

i started out archiving hdv to tape when it first came out (put it down to habit!) but soon realized what a complete waste of time it was.

now i simply bundle the whole project, along with final renders into a folder and back up on a couple of hd's (2 for safety). of course i have release versions on dvd, etc.,

i mean what's the point, you can't really do anything 'constructive / destructive' with the tape anyway, and re-editing (if ever required) from the hd is a doodle....

i might add recording hdv to tape requires the file to match the specs EXACTLY, otherwise you're in a mess.

If you are going to do it, I would think the best way would be: Tools - Print to HDV Tape. That should be all you have to do to get Vegas to do it.

hi edward....

well, that's what i thought, but iirc the only way i could ever guarantee a trouble free ptt was to render a complete m2t file from the tl. on a number of occasions i did a ptt from the 'mixed' tl and had various problems (some video or audio missing, glitches, etc.,)
