slip all takes

What am I doing wrong. Just as I am beginning to feel comfortable with VMS 10 HD platinum I come across another problem. This time I can't move all the edited events on the time line in assembled order while I insert another clip near the beginning of the established edit. I click onto options>slip all takes, and nothing happens except when I move the line along the next clip overlaps the one next to it and causes a cross dissolve. It's quite time consuming when I have to move each clip one at a time. BTW the auto rippple doesn't work either. I have CD tutorials by Bill Myers and allthough good they don't tell me what I want to know. Any help appreciated before I start my next epic.

Try using AutoRipple (see icon in top toolbar). You may want to ensure that it includes all Markers etc in which case see its drop down menu. Be sure to switch it off after you've finished as you can land in all sorts of difficulties if you forget it's on.
