Multicam drama....

Hey to all,
doing a multi cam edit in 10c and the blue highlight cam border is flashing and disappearing on and off and sometimes going altogether. This is a massive PITA because you cant tell which take you are on.
Was using Cineform files, thought they may be the issue, so made some more files in DnxHD and the prob is still there.
Anyone had this before?
is there a fix?

Re: Multicam drama....

ok, what about this then,

Is anyone using 10c and doing multi cam edits with Cineform or DnxHD WITHOUT any issues.

At least if I find out its unique to my machine I can re install Vegas to see if it gets fixed.

Interesting that clicking on the cam that I want active with the mouse doesnt work, but if I use the number pad and just select 1, 2, 3, or 4 it works ok, even though I still cant see which is the active cam unless I pause playback.

As a side note, for anyone that doesnt have Cineform, DnxHD is free and ihas options for 10 bit, looks very, very good, and plays back really well on the timeline.

Re: Multicam drama....

Interesting that this should come up today...
I installed Vegas 8.0c demo, and the multicam preview does not work (with .MTS files). Can't get it to display the 3 tracks in preview. Does it need a certain type of file? Is this disabled in the demo version?

Not intending to hijack thread, just curious.
Thanks,
Ken

Adrian's Journal: Sony Vegas Pro 8 Tutorial - Multicamera Editing

Re: Multicam drama....

Did a Multicam project a couple of months ago with Vegas 10c 64Bit..
Footage was from 3 seperate AVCHD cams, a Sony AX2000, Canon HG21 and Canon HG10, each converted with Neoscene and brought into Vegas, did not have any of the problems you described..edit went without a hitch.

a picture (well a moving one is even better) tells a thousand words....

reinstalled Cineform twice,
Vegas once,
I guess a talk with Sony comes next.

Re: Multicam drama....

Gerald, if you're using XDCAM EX ClipBrowser to get the files from your camera, make sure it's the latest version (2.60).
I had several strange issues doing an mp4 to mxf transcode on an earlier version (2.10) with files from my JVC HM700.
Updating ClipBrowser made all the difference.

Re: Multicam drama....

Mike, dont laugh, but Ive always just dragged the MXF clips straight of the card and converted to Cineform from a hard drive.
Is there a reason why I should use the Clipbrowser instead?
The clipbrowser is only applicable in Vegas, yeah? Not in HD Link?

Re: Multicam drama....

Gerald, I think you meant to say MP4 files from the card.
MXF is what ClipBrowser will give you after re-wrapping.
I use MXF files because they're easier to edit on my quad core than the native MP4 files.
It's free so you have nothing to lose by trying it to see if it works.

Get it at https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.co...del-XDZP1.aspx

Re: Multicam drama....

Thanks Mike,
I'll give it a go.
Cant do any worse than I'm doing now, In every batch of Cineform converts (from the JVC mp4's) there must be one or 2 bad files, they keep crashing Vegas.
Drop them all in project media, bang, Vegas dies.
I have to go through and add them individually and weed out the troublemakers.
It hasnt been this crash happy since doing multi-cam AVCHD.
Looks like another DnxHD batch render tonight :(
Theres nothing like paying $400.00 for something good,
then they drop the cost of it by a $100 bucks
then it doesnt work right,
and I'm using a free codec just to get it done.
grrrrrrrrrrr!
