DVD got boring audio

I just finished a small project using Vegas Pro and DVDA. Video rendered Mpeg2 and AC3. DVDA prepared the Ts file and burned dvd in ImgBurn. On Vegas timeline and DVDA, audio all were sounds good and robust but why the dvd plays on a dvd player, audio sound not as robust, audio sound lower and sounds compressed, ie boring. Some of the audio are MP3 musics. I rendered ac3 stereo 48hz 16 bit . Should I jack up the audio meter in vegas when rendering audio to get louder and more robust sounds. Can anyone give some good advice on audio. Thank you.

I just went through this myself. Here's the short answer:

Go to "Render As"
Select your "Dolby Digital AC-3" file type
Select the "Stereo DVD" template
Select the "Custom" button
Select the "Preprocessing" tab
In the "Dynamic Range Compression" area, change both "Line Mode Profile" and "RF Mode Profile" to "None"

This is working for me. Good luck.

Wade, you missed the first step.
After clicking Custom, set Dialog normalization to -31 dB.

You know, I never moved mine there. I found and left it at -27. Am I missing out by not changing it? Will that raise the level of the encoded sound by 4db to leave it at -27?

Re: DVD got boring audio

Setting it to -31 sets it at unity gain.
Don't ask me to explain that as smarter audio minds than I have have said that numerous times.
All I can tell you is that it will make a substantial difference in your final DVD audio.
Try it and hear for yourself.

Consider it done. Thanks Mike.

You forgot to ask him at what bitrate he encoded the audio.

If it's music or something special I find the room for a bitrate of 448 kbps.

Try that and see if it doesn't sound 100 percent better. Most of the other suggestions will only increase the loudness.
