“Wavy” playback with PIP
 

I’m using Vegas 9e on Windows 7, 64 bit. I’m getting a “wavy” effect on the edges of moving objects on a PIP. CLICK HERE FOR SAMPLE: . PIP in Vegas 9 on Vimeo The upper left image is the most noticable. If I make either clip full screen it looks fine. The video was shot using a Panasonic TM700 and I’m using the original MTS file. This is the first time I have had this problem. How do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

It's the first time I posted a sample...not sure why the Vimeo doesn't show BUt if you click the title "PIP in Vegas 9 on Vimeo" it will play.

Are you referring to the "waves" in the stripes on the people's robes?

Looks like a resampling artifact to me. What are the frame rates of the clips, and what's the frame rate of the project? What was the frame rate of your render?

Yes. The stripes and edges of the robes. The frame rates are all 29.970.

Try going into the clip properties and choosing "Disable Resample."

Tried it - didn't help.

BTW, when I play the clip from the camera out HDMI into a 54" Panasonic plasma, the image looks great.

I don't have a Vegas workflow to recommend, but, I do think that this is a scaling artifact related to interlacing.

If this is correct, the fix would be to deinterlace before rescaling for the pip effect. Such artifacts could also be related to clip and project interlace settings.

I tried to deinterlace before rescaling for the pip effect. That didn't work either. I'm really stumped.

Is this 1080 footage?

Vegas sometimes has a problem scaling it down too far.

Maybe try rendering it out to 720p 60p before you put it in the P-i-P.

By the way, any time you resize footage, you want to have the render video quality set to "best."

Tried rendering it to 720p 60p and then put it in the PiP...also set render video quality set to "best." Still didn't work. This is really frustrating.

Are you doing the PIP with pan/crop, or are you doing with track motion?

Whichever one you're doing, try the other one.

Had to get some other work done before I could continue on this project. I used track motion to create the PiP. I tried pan/crop and still have the wavy video.

Is the pinp exactly the same frame ratio after you've reduced it?
