unable to burn Blu Ray in DVDA
 

I installed a Pioneer burner a few months ago and am only now starting to use it. But I keep getting error messages in DVDA, maybe someone can point out what I'm doing wrong. I import AVCHD 24p footage in to Vegas 10, render out an uncompressed file and import it to TMPGenc. Encode to blu ray format 1920x1080p. Import to DVDA and burn. The file size is about 13 gig, so plenty of space. DVDA setting set to blu ray and 1920x1080, before I hit the "Burn" button, the dialog box that says "Out of safe zone" etc says "overall bitrate is greater than 28mbps. the overall bitrate is too high for burning" but it's set to VBR and I also tried CBR. I get the "Error occurred during compilation" during the burn. Is it merely the bitrate? I would think it wouldn't be since my files are well under 25gig.

So what bitrate is TmpGenc using? Is it greater than 28mbps?

Out of curiosity, why are you rendering out uncompressed (which would be an EXTREMELY HUGE file) and then using TmpGenc? Do you really mean "uncompressed"? Why not just render out of Vegas to Blu-Ray format?

Yes Brian, I am a newbie to Bluray, but as Edward says why not render using a bluray template right out of Vegas? As long as your render using Bluray compliant settings when you render out of Vegas, then DVDA will not have to re-encode. You're eliminating two unnecessary steps: TMPGenc and DVDA having to re-encode.

Well I guess it's a carry over from when I was using Virtual dub to resize my hd material to SD. That was the suggested workflow. I've alway heard Vegas is lousy for encoding and that it's best to get something pristine from the Vegas timeline and hand it over to a good encoder (tmpgenc). I'd love to use another codec though, but some how think I'd we wise not to rely too much on the Vegas encode engine. Ed, is that what you're suggesting? stay entirely with vegas and then go to DVDA with no third party encoding?

TMPGenc is encoding at 39,744 kb/s. Perhaps that is the problem? That's about 39 Mb/s right?
It's also set at 1 pass. I'm well within the 25 gig capacity of the bluray disk. other setting are 1920x1080 rez and 23.976 frame rate....

TMPGenc uses x264 for AVC encoding which achieves better quality at lower bitrates than the encoders provided with Vegas. However, since a blu-ray disk holds 25GB of data, there is no need to use such an efficient encoder unless the video is significantly longer than 2 hours. Moreover, as you have mentioned, video encoded with x264 doesn't ingest well into DVD Architect. Seach on "x264 DVD Architect" for more information.

A possible work around involves using Vegas encoded files as input to DVD Architect and then swapping them with higher quality x264 encoded versions using tsmuxer and bdedit.

What's the purposed of first exporting Vegas rendered files ? Why not just use the 264 versions?

The reason to use the Vegas rendered files is because the x264 versions are not compatible with DVD Architect.

Unless you have really long program ( say over 2 hours 20 mins) then stay with the MPEG2 export directly from Vegas with the DVD Architect BLuray preset.
