Rendering Threads

Hi everyone. I got this issue not very clear. My machine is an I7 950 with 6gig ram. I am using Vegas Pro 9. In Preferences under Video tab I have rendering threads set to 16. It was set like that when the program installed, never touched it myself. I read over the net that too many threads can actually slow render times. So my question is, to make the most of my cpu mentioned above what would be the best setting for this parameter? Thanks for any answer

Re: Rendering Threads

If Vegas 9 is not crashing then leave the number of rendering threads alone. If you want to make the most of your hardware you might want to upgrade to Vegas 10.

I am not having any problems with crashes at all. So I might aswell leave the value as it is then. OS is windows7 64bit, as I forgot to say before

Eric is correct, of course. More threads mean faster rendering, not slower. There are rare instances when some people are having problems that they will change the number of threads. But that is only a temporary fix until the real problem is sorted out.

Re: Rendering Threads

The i7 processor has 4 processors. With hyperthreading, it you can use 8 threads. So a setting of 8 threads is the max that will matter.
