1603 error Installing Pro

Sony Support has methodically led my through an exercise with a try this about every two days and even with the 10e release I cannot get it installed with out the 1603 error. Am I the only one to ever have this problem?

Installing on Windows 7 box.

I'm not sure anyone other than Sony Customer Service or Tech Support will be able to assist with this one. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else by anyone else. Does it say what a "1603 error" actually is?

Re: 1603 error Installing Pro

Ed,

I've googled the error and it is related to Windows Installer and .MSIs but I've gotten a bunch of try this articles i'm gonna hit.

May be related to the fact that I upgraded from VISTA to Windows 7 recently rather than a clean install.

Only reason I was re-installing was the Cineform DLL crash when trying to render two camera synced av.....bout ready to go back to stills only ;-(

I got the same error after I installed second SSD drive, well it was a bit more complicated, I had to swap PCIE slots also, so i ended up re installing OS,but with revo drive it's like 7 min, and
it works fine now

I reckon I'm looking at a clean Windows 7 reinstall to be able to use Sony Vegas Pro 10e ever again. It won't install without error and Sony Support is perfecting their stand up comedy routine slowly......be glad to be productive again.

Re: 1603 error Installing Pro

I'm having similar issues trying to install VP10.0e:

When I try to install normally in Vista x64 I get a tab on the task bar and a very tiny portion of a dialogue box in the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop. They both just sit there and I can do nothing with them. I tried installing in "Safe Mode" where the installation programme does actually start normally but then I hit an error 1601 (whatever that is).

I have put in a support question @ Sony but have not yet had any response. I take it that it is actually possible to install it in Vista - not just W7?!?

Steve,

I found this googling "1601 Error" Looks like trying to install in safe mode might give you an error in and of itself:

"When installing applications via the Microsoft Windows Operating System, you may have encountered an error called "Windows Error Message 1601." According to Microsoft, this error occurs for one of two reasons. The first reason being that you are trying to install an application while in safe mode; the second possibility is that the Windows Installer is not properly installed. In either case, the fix for the 1601 error is possible using two different methods."

Microsoft Windows Vista Error 1601 Fix:
1. Click on the Windows Start button. In the Windows Start Search box, type the following code: %windir%\system32\msiexec /unregserver, and then press the "Enter" key.

2. Next, go back to the Windows Start button and then to the Windows Start Search box and type: %windir%\system32\msiexec /regserver followed by the "Enter" key again.

3. Enter your admin password if your system asks for the password (This may not occur). Finally, click on the "Allow" option to finish the process. Attempt to install your application to test if the process worked.

Re: 1603 error Installing Pro

Thankfully all this mess is over. Ended up doing a "custom" Clean install of Windows 7 and then loading Vegas Pro. Only way it was going to work.

Edward, it's actually very nice to have a clean install. Taking me days to restore and activate all my apps but everything is so much quicker.
Think I'll do one every 6 months or so from now on. ;-)

Re: 1603 error Installing Pro

Here's my thoughts on the topic:

1. Get the setup the way you want it.

2. Make an IMAGE of the drive.

3. Whenever you want to start over, Restore the IMAGE. Then everything is already installed/registered/activated/ready to use and it didn't take you all day to do it.

Naturally this won't pick up programs installed AFTER the image but it will get you much closer with much less effort - and you can always make new images after installing the newer programs.
