Vegas 10 + DVDLab + GOP errors
 

Hi Guys
I have always used DVDLab to author my disks from my MPEG2 files, and with Version 9 I just used to use the standard PAL DVD template and DVDLab would then split the file into MPA and MPV files.

With Version 10 64 bit I'm having the occasional issue where DVDLab splits the file and "loses" the bitrate information and come up with a "0-GOP" error. Not all files, just some!!

Since the error seemed GOP related I re-rendered the offending clips and in the template under Advanced Video checked the box that says "Use Closed GOP's" and that solves the problem. Now when you check the box there is also an option drop down that allows "none short", "first short" or "all short" ...For my current renders I left it at default which is "none short"

Could some kind soul explain why I need to use "Closed GOP's" and which drop down option is the best to use?????

Hi All

Just an update on this post for those that want to know!! What happened is that the clip "lost" it's timecode!! What I had done (in the rush) was butt two clips up together without expanding the track so I could see that they were actually continuous and there was a 2 frame gap between clip 1 and clip 2 so the the actual timecode "died" at the start of the add-on clip!! On my subsequent Realty shoots I also had a clip where I had to record an "addendum" and when I added it this time I overlapped the clips by 2 or 3 frames and the problem disappeared. Useful to know if you are doing segments with just cuts and they are not "physically joined" the problem might cause trouble down the line!!
