First attempt at Blu-Ray...recommendations?

Hi all,

As the title suggest I will be burning my first Blu-Ray for a client tomorrow. Of course before I do that I have to render first.

In the mpeg section of the render window I choose the "25 mbps Blu-Ray 1920x1080 @ 24p". If I click on "custom" the next window is very similar to it's DVD counterpart and here lies my request for recommendations as I am not verse in the BD specifications:

Is the 25mpbs written in stone or can I set it to variable bitrate (with 2pass)?

If so, what would you suggest I set the bitrate to? For DVD's my workflow has always been to set it to variable with a max bitrate of 8, an average of 6 and a minimum of 4, which always gave me great results.

If I apply the same logic here maybe I could go up to 50 for max, 35 for average and 25 minimum or is that overkill?

Thanks for your input

Phil

Hi

Blu-ray supports upto a maximum of 40Mbits/sec for video, so if space isn't an issue go for 35 average and 40 maximum and 2 pass. MPEG2 though isn't that efficient and rarely used on Blu-ray anymore although at high bit rates it should look good. Much better to go for H264 although the output options for this from Sony Vegas isn't that great.

Regards

Phil
