Is 50P tougher on your Processor?

Hi All
I'm making the comparisons between 1080 25P and 720 50P and previewing in Vegas 10 -64bit

I shot some stuff today in 1080 25P (remember we are PAL so we don't have 30P!!!) just to compare between that footage and 720 50P

Now, what is noticeable is the fact that the processor on the i7 seems to handle the preview in Vegas 10 way better with 1080 25P as opposed to 720 50P (I'm assuming the double frame rate makes it work harder???)

With a two minute clip in 1080 25P the preview monitor remains at full resolution at the BEST setting thoughout the clip but with a new project (with the correct property settings for 50P) after a few seconds preview drops down to half resolution ..if you stop the clip, it resumes at FULL again but again only lasts a few seconds before going down to half so at 1080 25P I watch the preview at almost full image size (the monitor for preview is only a 19" so I can only get up to 1440!! Now with the 50P footage the image is 1280 x 720 so it's displayed full size but quickly drops to a "no so good" to watch 640x360!!!!

So does 50P even at a smaller image size (1280x720) work the processor a LOT harder ???

Hi

In theory it shouldn't be harder work for 720p, but I guess Vegas behind the scenes is doing a bit more than just decompressing and so find it gets further behind having to serve up 50 frames a second, so rather than drop frames it drops quality.

If you play it back via Windows media player, I expect you find 720p and 1080/25p play fine.

You can right click on the smaller preview window and tell it not to drop quality, it might still play back okay.

Regards

Phil
