Audio Sync After DVD Render
 

Hi all,

I have a music video that starts with a piano playing slowly and showing the hands on the keys, so A/V sync is critical so it doesn't look fake/wrong. Here's the thing ... It looks fine in Vegas, my WMV's (several different qualities) all look fine, and it looks fine in the DVD-A preview.

However - when I actually burn a DVD and pop it into a player, the piano and audio are noticeably off at the beginning ?!?!?!?!?!? By later in the song, when it shows piano again, they are back on? What the heck is going on?

Original audio is a 16/44.1 wav and I'm exporting it as AC3 192 out of Vegas + the mpg for the video into DVD-A.

This is something that happens once in a while to me, and I have never ever figured out why. My work around is this. I re-render in Vegas and reburn with DVDA. That has fixed it everytime although I think it's only happened to me perhaps 3 times in all the time I've been using Vegas and DVDA which is since version 2 of Vegas. It's painful to have to re-render but that's the first thing I would try. Reset all your parameters in Vegas>render as> mpeg2 and see if that helps. It has for me.

Something is potentially a little hinky with 16/44 audio. The audio standard for both DV and HDV is 16/48.

Some sound cards do strange things to playback when they see multiple sampling rates. They'll lock to one or another.

Although Vegas is famously agnostic when it comes to throwing anything we want on the timeline and expecting good results, sometimes Windows & sound card drivers don't cooperate.

Solutions - confirm the sample rates of all sources. If all are the same, confirm that the Vegas project properties are set to that rate. If there are some different rates, consider resampling (a separate audio-only render) to bring all sources to the same rate.
