View Preview Display

Hi Folks

I've been trying to understand how the Video Preview windows works in Vegas. I've noticed that the information bar at the bottom of the window displays various sizes, namely:

* Project size in pixels and frames per second
* Preview size in pixels and frames per second
* Current frame number
* Display frame size in pixels

My question is why does the text colour in the information bar alternate between black and white depending on the size of the video preview window? (I have the "scale video to fit preview window" button unchecked in the preferences by the way).

Does the text color signify something? I have noticed that sometimes the picture becomes sharper when the color is black and fuzzier when its white. Also, playback is smoother when the text is black and frame rate begins to drop below normal when its white. What does this all mean?

Anyone?

Are you saying that no one really knows what the white and black text color codes mean? I mean, seriously?

That's exactly my point. No one has ever mentioned this little phenomena or, like you say, even noticed it. But its there. So please can someone out there comment on why its there and what it means? I do notice that it has an affect on the playback quality somehow. Just can seem to why or how.

Re: View Preview Display

I think the white text shows that you've adjusted the preview rate settings.
In the HELP section, under 'Previewing your project', the right-hand white text is a display indicator:

"The Display indicator represents the current playback properties. If you're using an Auto setting for preview quality, this indicator will represent the scaled frame size. If your video preview is dropping frames, you'll see the actual frame rate in this section."

The left-hand white text is a preview indicator:

"The Preview indicator in the Video Preview window represents the setting of the Video Preview Quality button."
