Easy play codec for Vegas 8?

I need to transcode some files for a friend who has a pretty old PC and only uses Vegas 8.
The files are interlaced 1440x1080 AVCHD from a Sony handycam
Im pretty certain his machine will struggle with the native files and since he wants to deliver to Youtube with the end result, I think it will be best to -
1. Deinterlace, and
2. Change to an easier to edit codec in 720p
So, any suggestions on a codec?
I was thinking HDV or Sony yuv maybe......
any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks Leslie, I don't know why but I thought Vegas 8 didn't recognise mxf,
if it does, that is perfect.

Hi Gerald

When I was still using my little DuoCore I found my best solution was to transcode using Upshift to HDV files...the computer handled them with ease!!! My older pansonic cameras actually had a transcoder that was free from Panasonic..I'm pretty sure that Sony also ship a ultility with their AVCHD cameras that make the files a lot less processor intensive. I remember doing some Sony stuff a few years back for a buddy.

However if the mxf files work on his machine then no transcoding is needed!!
