Architect Audio confusion
 

I am at last getting somewhere with Architect Pro 5.2 but, In Vegas the audio render refers to AC-3, yet in "Optimize Disc" in DVDA it states PCM Stereo 16 bit 48Khz.

I tried rendering to the DVDA stream but found there was no audio at all.

Also, I am only using about 47% of the available disc space on the DVD which is a set of six short separate videos with their respective selection buttons.

I'm in PAL land and would appreciate some enlightenment please, as I wish to keep the audio quality as high as possible.

You should render vid and audio in Vegas. Video to the requirments for the size (meaning bitrates) and audio to AC-3. Some say it doesn't sound as good as PCM but frankly I haven't heard any real difference. Name them both the same; IE; my wedding.mpg and mywedding.AC3 so when you pull it into DVDA both files will come in at the same time. If you do the render in Vegas then you don't need to "optimize" the disc in DVDA. Make sure you render the MPEG to the right size or you WILL have to re-render it.
In Vegas use "Render As" and go to the custom button then thru the menu to find MPG2 or AC-3.
It's really not as hard as they make it sound. For additional help go to Edward Troxels great newsletters, there are a number of them archived all about using Vegas to render and DVDA to author and burn. While they are mainly for the older versions of Vegas/DVDA it all applies to the newer versions as well.

Thanks Don. I have now produced my first disc in DVDA but there is a problem in that one of the short movies is in 4x3 yet the DVD plays OK in the computer. But in a DVD player it is stretched to fill the 16x9. The project has 5 PAL widescreen videos and one 4x3.

I did not see any boxes stating "maintain Aspect Ratio" but that is what I want. Curiously, in DVDA the computer preview is a 4x3 area and the W/S videos have black spaces top & bottom, whereas the 4x3 video fills the whole space. However, on playing in a DVD player into a W/S TV, the 16x9's look fine but the 4x3 is stretched. The settings for the 4x3 in Vegas is std PAL (4x3).

Any suggestions ?

Ron, render ALL of them out of Vegas as "widescreen". The Vegas render will automatically add the pillar bars and you'll be giving DVD Architect a widescreen video that matches the rest of them.
