Rendering speeds?
 

Ok, getting the hang of Vegas and DVD Architect, today's question is about the long duration of rendering. I created a video in Vegas thats almost 2 hours, so I know I have a long render. Once I completed my project in DVDA, I found I had another few hours in rendering and burning. Are there any adjustments I can make to help cut down in all my rendering time?

You need to use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum settings before you do your encoding (i.e. rendering) for DVDA.
I prefer to use the one found at http://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip
For a two hour video, I would do it as a custom 2-pass VBR render using the following Max/Avg./Min numbers:
8,200,000 / 4,688,000 / 2,828,000
The default setting for AC-3 is fine.

Lots of factors influence rendering times; a few pointers would be use 8 bit in your project definitions unless you have very good reasons to use 32 bit. Also 1 pass is quicker than 2 pass and constant bit rate is quicker than variable bit rate.

However constant bit rate takes you over the maximum size for a standard size DVD for a 2 hour project and you don't want to drop the bit rate so low as to fit onto that disc. So consider using dual layer DVDs as they can take about 8.5gb A 2hour project rendered at a constant bit rate of 8000 and the audio done separately as an AC3 file will fit onto a dual layer DVD. And at that rate you can be sure that the rate is compatible with DVD players whilst at the same time ensuring that you are getting pretty much the best quality possible. Verbatim is a reliable disc brand.

You should not need to do any further rendering in DVDA and it's not desirable to rerender your first render anyway because of a possible quali hit and the extra time involved.

I am new to bit rates and will certainly do dome reading, could I have burned my project with DVDA without rerendering? I am using DL discs and when i first tried DVDA and Vegas, i burned a short test disc and found it much clearer.

Absolutely. In that case, I would use a custom CBR (Constant Bit Rate) of 8,000,000.
Even then, you'll still have a bit of room to spare.
