how to play mt2 and avi files on Mac

I have a customer to whom I giving raw footage. He uses a Mac. The files are .avi and .mt2 type video clips. I tried to play them on my girlfriend's macbook but they will not play, so I'm thinking they will not play on my customer's mac either.

What kind of free player for Mac should I recommend to my groom, the customer, so he can view the files if he wants?

This is a lead, not a solution!

Look into Flip4Mac. There are freeware and paid versions from telestream.net. Good for WMV, maybe AVI works with it, maybe the M2T?

Then there's VLCPlayer. That very versatile player is available for Mac, as well as PC.

Seth, thanks, the VLC player sounds like a good place to start!

Jeff, I gave MXF files to our local cable company.
The producer said that he found a free utility that would allow him to import then into FCP.
