Can not capture video

I am having a problem with Vegas pro 10. I tried to capture video today and kept getting a message that Vegas could not identify the video device, it may be in use elsewhere. I tried three different camcorders and decks. When I finally did get it to recognise the device and I tried to capture video an interesting thing happene. I could see th video on the monitor, I can watch the capture counter counting the frames captured, but when I hit stop capture it said no video captured. Then, when I finally did get it to capture a 30 sec. clip and I played it back in the timeline I got 10 seconds of broken video clips. Do I need to reinstall Vegas or, is it that my video capture card is going out? Other than this I can still edit using the exising videos in the Sony Media Library. Any advise would help. Bob
