What player do you use?

I just finished rendering a 19-minute video with the following specs:

Sony AAC/AVC mp4
1920 x 1080i
VBR 20,000,000 Maximum
VBR 14,000,000 Average
Resulting mp4 video file is 2.3 GB

My player, Arcsoft Total Media Theater 5 cannot play it. Error message says "Unsupported format". I tried VLC player, didn't work, either.

Should I try another player? Any suggestion?
Thank you,

Re: What player do you use?

i simply use both wmp and vlc.

a. i would think the vast majority of my, and my clients audiences have what came with their pc, usually wmp - whatever i produce HAS to play in wmp.

b. vlc is my fall back position for testing. it's also free so i can happily recommend it when needed.

what is the proposed use of your video, net, blu-ray, etc.,?

Eh? . . . . Why not try the other way around? What does the Player supposed to play?

Grazie

Is this your player? This is purely software NON hardware solution? Yes?

Tips for TotalMedia Theatre 5 Settings

Have you tried the file association options?

But, as Leslie suggests. Keeping it simple is not a bad idea. However, is this s/w on a hardware solution?

Grazie

Re: What player do you use?

Just out of curiosity, I rendered a very short segment of my project, to the same specs, but the length is only about 30 seconds long. It played fine with Total Media Theater and VLC. Somehow I suspect that the jpegs I have at the end is to blame. I have my video so that at the very end, a bunch of jpegs are played as a slide show. I'll try adding some jpegs to the 30-second video clip, and render again, and see if it plays.

Thanks,

Re: What player do you use?

Just as I suspected, the reason the mp4 file didn't play is due to the jpeg slideshow at the end of the video. I re-rendered the project with just the video, and it played fine.

Anybody have any idea why the jpegs caused the "Unsupported format" error message?

Thanks,

Just to throw in another variable: I rendered the video WITH slideshow, but at a lower bitrate to upload to Vimeo, and it's playable on Vimeo. Not sure of the significance of this piece of information, maybe irrelevant.

No, however I use a large number of still images in most of my shows and I use the PNG format instead of JPEG by default. I prefer PNG because of its greater flexibility, mainly because it supports transparent backgrounds and that gives more options for placing multiple images within the same view.

I convert JPEGs to PNGs using a Photoshop batch action which also resizes and sharpens the JPEGs but you could just save as PNGs.
