vegas pro 9 render MP4 files vs AVCHD? advantages?

I am considering buying the Canon HF G30, that is now able to shoot 50p and gives the option of recording MP4 as well as AVCHD

are there any significant advantages in editing from MP4? any real savings in rendering for example?

thank you
F
