Best Render Settings for Vimeo and Youtube

All,

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before, so please point me in the right direction if there is a post that already deals with this:

I'm looking for the best render options/settings for both Vimeo and Youtube. This appears to be a constantly evolving and moving target.

Can someone point me in the right direction regarding the best settings, format, etc., for 2013?

Thanks,

Jerry

First, I am no expert on this stuff but, I have some experience. "Best" is not something that you can say definitively. For me, best is not waiting for 14 hours for my video to upload and convert. Youtube prefers H.264 at native framerate. They say they have no bitrate limits when you upload in this format but, they will conform the video when you upload it. I recently uploaded a 720p60 video with a running time of seven minutes. It was 750MB. It took about four hours to upload and the video is now choppy on all resolutions except the 720HD option. It looks to me like they dropped out every other frame on the lesser resolutions. Maybe I would have been better off recording at 30fps but, 60fps suited the material better.

My best advice is to read what each site says they want in their respective help sections, then experiment to find the best results for the individual video you are posting.

Bob

For what it's worth, I got sick and tired of having to tweak Vegas all the time, so I downloaded the mac version of this and it seems to be a quicker workflow. It has presets for different interfaces.

Follow the vimeo guide. They even have a handy video.

The same file then works great on Vimeo, YouTube and our Apple TV.
