Burn 4K footage to Blu-ray
 

I'm trying to burn 4K footage to BD in Vegas Pro 12 but get a lot of aliasing. I'm aware BD doesn't support 4K but figured downconverting would give good results. I drop the footage into a 1080P timeline, and burn direct to disk but find the aliasing to be excessive. I get similar results when trying to burn HD material to DVD. Seems to be the downconversion. I should also note that the footage was shot 4K at 60P, but rendered out as 1080P at 59.94.

I use Vegas to do the downconversion and intermediate render, but not the final render or burn to BD.

Parts of this process Vegas can do very well. Crop the sides of the frame on each timeline event and set the project properties to 3840x2160, 59.94p, gaussian. Uncheck the box "allow Vegas to adjust source media to better match project or render properties." Disable resample on the timeline events. Render to 1920x1080 AVI YUV 10 bit. Feed that to x264 to render a 28mbps high profile, level 5.1 h.264, no cabac. Mux the audio back in with TsMuxer and choose a *.m2ts container. Burn to BD media with ImgBurn. The m2ts file will play back on the web or pc with windows media player, windows media classic or vlc. The disc will play back in Sony ps3 or Sony BD players.

There's no aliasing with the right process. Start with a 5 second clip and take the workflow beginning to end until you get the bugs out. Then you can do full length. The problems arise when trying to do too much with Vegas, like for a compressed final render to avc, or burn, is just not very good.
