Question About Creating DVD's

Why is that my DVD’s do not look like regular TV. When I burn a DVD from Vegas pro 12, the results are awesome. I get a great looking image but it looks very different from normal tv or commercial DVD’s. It seems as though it has something to do with luminance values. The video has more of a computer look to I than a television look to it. I have been reading about REC 709 as being the standard when it comes to viewing on an HDTV. Can anyone shed some light on this? I have the problem reagrless of what camera I use. I own and shoot with the following: Canon C100, Canon XHA1 and Canon 650D.

Re: Question About Creating DVD's

Are you keeping your video levels within the 16-235 range?

Along with Mikes suggestion remember that the bit rates affect the results in a big big way, the render process can affect it...pretty much everything can affect the final product.
What software are you burning thru (DVDA, ImgBurn...???) When you say a video look more than a TV look, can you be a little more descriptive.

The DVD production relate to some other standard - Rec. ITU-R BT.601-7
Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) - Rec. ITU-R BT.601 25th Anniversary and still ´in force´ - the bridge that joined the analogue and digital worlds (1982-2007)
Rec. 601 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Re: Question About Creating DVD's

Mike: Yes, I am keeping within that range, but it still yields the same results.
Don: The video looks great, however its like the picture is to pristine. It has a crystal clear look where the images on commercial DVD's and television seem a bit more subdued and flat. I should also note that I am editing the Mov file without transcodeing them to an intermediate codec. I wonder id its a codec issue?

Re: Question About Creating DVD's

What device are you playing your shop bought DVDs on? What device are you playing your own prepared DVDs on?

Grazie
