Screeching Noise in Vegas 13

I have a .wav file that I imported to Vegas 13.

When I play it, each time re-position the cursor I hear a very short duration loud screeching noise.

Has anyone experienced this behavior?

The .wav file plays fine in Windows Media Player. etc.

Are you holding down the Ctrl Key?

Not holding the CTRL key.

But who knows what other options I may have engaged that should perhaps not have been engaged.

What is absolutely bizarre is that if I take the .wav files and edit them in, for instance, Audacity, no problems,

No problems either playing these files in Windows Media Player, but bringing them into Vegas the screeching noise (duration of about 1/2 of a second) happens each time you re-position the cursor along the timeline.

it does not matter if you reposition the cursor whilst the timeline is playing versus clicking on Pause, then repositioning the cursor, then re-starting playing.

Just now, I used Plural Eyes to align the ,wav file with the XLR input from an on-cam Rode mic - the resulting audio track has no screeching.

WAV files can contain not only uncompressed PCM audio, but also different types of compressed audio. Specify exactly what are the parameters of this WAV file.

I used a Tascam DR -100 MK II

Settings WAV 24 bit 48k

Karl,

If you have it on, try turning off GPU acceleration.

I've experienced this. I think it happens when I use USB hardrives.

Thank you Marc.. I moved my .WAV file to my C: drive.. No screeching.

So, it looks like one should not load/edit/render projects from USB Drives.

Looks like I need to change my workflow
1. offload cam entire directory structure to a usb drive
2. when I want to use Vegas, copy the entire directory structure from the usb to an internal drive, then save.
3. park the entire project back at the usb drive for long term storage.

I suppose it might be wise to keep an empty directory on C: for each project to make sure the .veg file retains its pointers to the MTS files in the directory structure and to any audio files that may be part of the project.

The copy time may be offset by faster rendering.

Are you using USB 3.0? I haven't experienced any problems using fast hard drives connected with USB 3.0 to my Sony i7 notebook for editing in Vegas. In fact, for 1920x1080p projects, I get better overall performance in preview and rendering if the source files are on the external USB 3.0 drive.

I also haven't experienced any problems using external hard drives connected with USB-2 and USB-3.
My main workflow is using a large USB-3 HDD.

Very interesting..

I can't imagine why performance would be better on a USB drive. Unless, of course the drive on the desktop/laptop is slow.

The DVXUSER folks suggested that all editing be done on an internal drive.

I am thinking of buying an SSD internal drive.I won't do that until I hear that it is faster.

Right now I have one internal 2 Gb and 3 external (USB) 2 gb, 3gb and 5 gb (bad mess)

I should have bought a rack mount with 5 x 5GB

No problem, I use a pair of internal drives with a software raid for editing and just use my USB drive for back-up. I also have edited with no problems on my laptop using a USB drive but for some reason I have problems trying to use them with my desktop system. And the screeching sound is incredibly loud when you have the volume up!
