getting .mpg into vegas

I've saved a clip from a DVD via the VLC Media player.

It tells me it has been saved as a Movie clip (.mpg) file.

When I import this file into Vegas Pro only audio comes in, no picture.

It plays in Windows Media Player OK.

I have tried everything I can think of. This includes bringing the file into Any Video Converter Free to try and convert to something else, but video does not come into that either, so I only get audio output.

I'm clearly missing something but I know not what. Perhaps someone can help...thanks in advance...

Easy test is to generate a clip and render as Main Concept MPEG-1

Then do

File\New (to get a clear workspace)
File\import\Media (to pick your rendered .mpg)
View\Window\Project Media
Drag the .mpg you see in the Project Media pop-up to your timeline (if you don't see a video or an audio track, right click and insert)
View\Window\Video Preview

Click on Play

Thanks Karl. After hours and hours of unsuccessfully trying to get the video and the audio into Vegas (Pro 13 by the way), I found another clip rip program which got it for me, and it is safely in the .veg file now...

Thanks again...

Renton. In Vegas just go to File / Import / DVD Camcorder Disc then browse to where you want to save it and Sony Vegas will rip a DVD disc for you, vision and audio. Assuming that it's a disc you can legally import from. There are ways of ripping copyrighted discs with Vegas but I won't go into that.
