Vegas 4.0 Public Beta Release(D)
 

Hey fellas, wanna give you guys a heads up!

Sonic Foundry will be releasing V4 public beta very soon, if not today!

If you can find the time, I suggest you throw this badboy on a test computer, and do some mini-projects in it. I think you'll see that V4 might be the premier NLE for the PC under 10k

They are also releasing a 1.0 version of a new product called
DVD Architect. Which will integrate with V4.0 and will allow us to use virtually one app to go from dv -> dvd :-D

Public beta copies of both products can be downloaded immediately
at www.sonicfoundry.com. Sonic Foundry anticipates shipping both
products in February 2003. Pricing for Vegas 4.0: MSRP $699; download
from Sonic Foundry for $489; boxed version from Sonic Foundry for
$559. Pricing for Vegas+DVD: MSRP $999; download from Sonic Foundry
for $699; boxed version from Sonic Foundry for $799. Vegas 4.0 and
Vegas+DVD also will be available from software dealers and
distributors worldwide. Upgrade pricing will be available at time of
product release.

I realize how 'spammy' that previous post sounds. Especially cause I haven't posted here much.

Sorry about that, I'm just amped this product is finally coming out! I've been a VV3 user ever since I bought by Canon GL2.

I come from a music background where 'image' rules over 'substance' especially in terms of applications, so I'm a staunch supporter of extolling the virtues of the underdog. Especially when they work really well. :-D

Everytime I put that URL in, it takes me to a screen requiring me to fill out a form, and when I'm done, it won't go back to a page having anything to do with VV4

Here is a better link. It puts you into a form that lets you
select V4, and/or DVD Architect plus sample content for both apps,
without automatically starting a download.

I called Sonic Foundry, and they gave me the link. It's on the main page. . .just go to www.sonicfoundry.com and click on the picture of VV4 and it'll take you to the necessary page. Downloading as I write this.

lucky guys. I'm at work! I gotta wait another 2 hours before I can get home to try this thing out! :-DDDD

It rocks---the color correction is now superior to anything I have ever used in the NLE world---the ripple editing and scrubbing is amazing----media management is now a non-issue--bin creation etc.---it now supports VB scripts so you guys can pretty much automate anything you want-----I am still playing and the only disappointing thing I have come across is the EDL situation---I dont know why they didn't improve it---Oh by the way, the preview window is divisible into two parts--one shows the image before you place an effect on it, the other the result of the effect---very neat----Have fun, you can play with it for about 30 days before you have to decide whether or not you want to purchase it.

I had no troubles downloading from that original link and I've got
it installed on my system at this very moment. Since I'm not a VV
user I seem to be a bit lost, but it looks great!

The color correction seems very nice and the split screen feature
is quite handy indeed. I hope this also works in a way that I
can compare the current scene to another one to make color
comparisons and match it (perhaps that is why the CLIPBOARD
option is also available for that split screen)....

I need to find some tutorials on this package! And load some DV
footage in!

Does it support Canon 4-track audio? What limits are there on the public beta version?

From what I am seeing, the comments say it is fantastic.

No limits on the beta----as far as the Canon question goes----I am not sure but go onto www.creativecow.com---the Vegas forum and ask them.

Only restrictions are you can't import or export mpeg2, mp3, or use the AC-3 encoder to encode.

Reason being is that those algorithms cost money, and when you buy Vegas, you're paying for your usage of those licenses, so for obvious reasons you can't use them in the beta (as it's free)

Oh and also, no 4 channel yet... some internal people pushed for it, but it got voted out, on account of 4 tracks of 12bit, 32khz (or whatever khz) isn't actual professional quality sound. (I'm not saying I agree, but that was the reason given)
