Huge Undetaking
 

Hello all. I am just finishing up a feature length film that I will be editing.
I have been doing rough cuts here and there along the way. My question is doeas any body have any advise on how to begin. I know how to edit I have just never editied a project this big before. There are 80 scenes with mullple camera angles.

Would the best approach be to just edit each scene to all the way, do a quick rough of all the scenes and assemble an entire rough and then tighten from there? Logistically what is the best way to take this on.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I do - rough in each scene first, so you have a basic notiion as to how long the actual movie will be (ie - is there enough footage for a feature, or is it way too short. This can happen even if there's a a lot of footage, because of multiple takes).

It also gives you a feel for the project if you weren't on set, including which actors you're going to need to "protect.".

And by rough in, I mean it can just be master shots. A lot of time, esp when pressed for time, what you edit now will, more than likely, be close to the final edit....

You might also consider taking frame grabs and printing them and assembling as a storyboard on a bulletin board. that's what I'd do. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer and trying to get my head around that much footage would cause a mental meltdown.
