Disaster STRUCK! - Can't open a .veg file
 

Help Help Help!!! I am trying to open a project I've been working on for weeks. But it's telling me that the .veg file is "most likely" corrupted or missing.

It's not missing - I can see it in my folder. Does Anybody know how to get to a previous version of the file? I've never ever seen this before, and frankly, I'm really shocked to my boots by this. I've been working on the project for several weeks, and if this is the only copy I'm really really screwed.

Please tell me that there's a hidden previous version of the file. Because it's never happened, I've never bothered to create a duplicate of a .veg file. My audio program, SAWSTUDIO creates a new "editlist" everytime you do anything, so it's really simple if something were to crash - to go back just 1 step - or 10 or whatever and start again. AAAUUUGGGHHH!!

I know you've probably worked this out by now, but remember to back it up.
If I make a major change I save it to a new .veg (eg Christmas 1.veg, Christmas 1.1.veg, Christmas 2.veg, etc).
Every now and then I also do a 'save as' and 'include trimmed copies of media' with a 1-2sec head and tail if I don't have access to the original tapes.
I generally spread backups over two drives in case of HDD failure.

Yep, I know about backing up - I do, but I've just got out of the habit with Vegas. I've never - ever had a problem, so after 3 or 4 years, I just got out of the habit.

I talked to the Vegas support guys. They told me that - while Vegas does an auto save every 5 minutes, the auto save stuff disappears when you close Vegas. So all you really have to fall back on is the .bak file. But in my case, the .bak files appears also to be corrupted. I ftp'ed the files off to Sony, and they are going to take a look, but they have no confidence that they can fix it.

Yeah, everything is always so clear in hindsight...

Good luck - I hope they can ressurect them, things aren't looking good though.
