Pan/crop background color

Hi everyone!

How do i change the background color from black to another color when i reduce the width of a video? not on the preview file but on rendered files also...

I guess the simplest way would be to put another track below the cropped one containing nothing but the color desired.

I have had to do this may times when I zoom out on a still (using the pan/crop tool). It the still is in portrait mode, then there will be black bars at the side, unless i you a solid color under it.
