need to video card. Which one?
 

My P4 desktop needs a new video card. I run Vegas 6d and not much else. What should my considerations be? I guess I would like the option of two monitors and I shoot in HDV.

I purchased an XFX Nvidia Geforce 7900GTX card. It has 512mb Ram and works well with my Vegas program. I think you are looking at about 350.00 bucks for one like this, and this will do what you stated you wish for. Remember this though, when it comes to video editing , the faster , the better. You can spend more money and get a little faster...but in this price range, the speed is unbeatable in my opinion for this particular card. Magic Bullet tested with the 7800GTX series cards and the results were MUCH faster than others. Good luck.

Ouch that's out of my budget. But actually I'd read before that speed on Vegas is solely a function of cpu speed.
gpu matters?

GPU matters if you are using certain plugins that use the GPU to cause their programs to work in real-time. Such as Magic Bullet. If that is not a concern, then you can certainly get a much cheaper video card. I replaced my ATI card with this Geforce card. I was able to do 2 monitors with it. I used one VGA monitor and HDMI output for the other. I am certain you can get one of those in the 125.00 range? I still have my ATI, if interested email me. J
