Why does 1080 30p not work???

I can render the following without any problems...Vegas 7.0d btw

A1) 1280X720, 29.97/25.00/23.976fps, progressive, 1.000 pixel

A2) 1440X1080 29.97/25.00 fps, interlaced, upper field first, 1.3333 pixel

A3) 1440X1080, 23.976fps, progressive, 1.3333 pixel

but why would you not be able to render...

B1) 1280X720, 29.97/25.00/23.976fps interlaced (assuming upper field first), 1.000 pixels

B2) 1440X1080, 29.97fps, progressive, 1.3333 pixel

IN ALL CASES TRYING TO MAKE PHOTOJPEG FILES

Note - the A1-3, B1-2 is simply to facilitate easier replies for a given format example

I'll try a stab at the answer right now but I'm only guessing....please help me to understand this if possible.

In situation B1 I am assuming that there is no technical reason for it but simply that for broadcast purposes it does not exist (I think?) so Vegas does not try to do it. It thinks it does but when looking at the file properties after a render it actually renders a progressive file. Fine...I don't actually want a interlaced 720 file anyway....HOWEVER.

In situation B2 it's a concern. I want this. My XH-A1 can record 30f so I want to capture and render out in this format to PhotoJpeg. When trying to force Vegas to go progressive at 29.97fps it again thinks it can but actually renders an interlaced file. For that matter it should be simple to take a 60i capture and render down to 29.97 progressive.

Hope someone will take the time and explain this...it's driving me nuts.

I really don't know, I'd say record in 60i and convert to 30p

I have 60i footage that I'm converting to 30p by setting the project properties to progressive and interpolate fields... then when I render the file I make sure it's set to progressive.

Stuff looks great...

EDIT: Let me try to render some 1440x1080 30p stuff... one sec... (from 60i source)

Not rendering for me either... sticks at 0% and doesn't move... I just took the HDV720 settings and changed the resolution... even if the pixel aspect ratio is at 1, it should still render it'd just look funny...

Joe,

Did you have sucess with the 1440X1080 render when all was said and done?

Joe Busch May 5th, 2007 11:02 PM

Nah read under the EDIT: It wouldn't go... stuck at 0%

Really odd that 60i renders perfectly.

Maybe one work-around would be to render it at 60i then run it through virtualdub with a deinterlace filter?

Here's another kicker....try rendering a NTSC DV file as 29.97 progressive....again it doesn't work. Vegas again thinks it can do the render but when you look at the clip properties it again shows it as a interlaced file....

How can you make a 30p NTSC file? I want to do this for motion backgrounds.
