Best quality possible AVCHD to DVD?

Hi

I need some help,

I have a Sony HDR-SR1 Camcorder that records AVCHD format clips and Sony Vegas 7.0e.

I want to produce the highest quality footage possible on standard DVDs. I do not have a Blu-ray burner just standard DVD -R burner on PC.

I am comfortable with the editing process in Vegas and exporting to DVD Architect to do the burning, etc.

I need some help understanding what file formats I should use en-route to preserve as much quality as possible.

Currently I use the Sony Picture Viewer to convert the AVCHD files into "high quality" NTSC MP2 files for editing purposes. Editing the raw AVCHD files in Vegas appears too slow and cumbersome.

When I finishing editing, how do I preserve as much of the HD quality as possible through the final render process? Is there a particuar format or frame rate I should use to achieve this?

I am just starting out and learning about all this stuff and so any help much appreciated!

If you're going out to standard DVD, you're going to MPEG-2. It's pretty much the same process as you've been using with DV -- render out using the DVD Architect templates.
