Video sucked down a hole.

Ok, while working on this wedding, I had this neat affect come to mind, and the only reference I have is Saturday cartoons when I was a kid. a hole would appear on screen and the video would be sucked down the hole.

Any one know of a way to do this without having the tools WB or Disney has?

Hi Steven,

With much effort this can be achieved in Vegas but to be honest I would be more inclined to go out to After Effects where there are more specific tools.

Having said that, in Vegas you could try using keyframed 3d track motion, coupled with a keyframed mask. The track motion moves the layer to be sucked in to the hole while the mask changes it's shape to look as though it's being dragged in. A little wave effect may also help.

Here is a REALLY BASIC .veg that illustrates the point.

I stress it is really basic and is only to illustrate one possible way of achieving this. There are, no doubt, better ways! For example forgetting about a keframed mask and using the deform effect (probably better but I've run out of time to play!).

Like I said, I would go out to AE and do a much better job, much more quickly.

Cheers!

Ian . . .

Thanks Ian, hehe, I see AE is a bunch of money. I'll give Vegas a shot.

Yeah, there's the snag! Hope the .veg gives you a couple of ideas.

btw, is there still a club in Richmond called Goin' Bananas or something similar? I was there MANY years ago when a youth theatre I was in did a tour of the area (and I lived in Richmond-upon-Thames in those days which I seem to remember is twinned with your Richmond).

Happy memories of floating down the James with a six pack tied to an inner tube!

Not that I know of, but I'm kinda old to be aware of clubs anymore. Yeah, the whole six pack and floating down the James sounds great.
