Rendering surround sound to PCM uncompressed

What settings am I supposed to use to archive my audio? I assumed it should be five channels, since the LFE is generated from the other five. Once I opened my DV AVI file, I found that it mapped all the channels to the center. Which is which?

Then I tried using six channels, to better effect. With five channels, I only got one surround channel (no left and right). I think the order is Left, Right, Center, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround. I am not sure about the LFE channel; it seems empty. Can anyone confirm?
