HD MPEG File Rendering

I have a HV20 camera (High Def), when I capture the video with Vegas 7e I get a m2t file (MPEG2 with Transport audio?). What I would like to do is take the captured m2t files, edit out parts of it in Vegas and then render a new m2t file which, in theory, should be smaller than the original since I have take out video. My question is what format/template should I pick in Vegas to achieve this? I do not want to loose any quality in this process from the original m2t to the 'smaller' one as I will then delete the original m2t and keep the 'new' one around for viewing on Plasma via HTPC or in a future VEGAS project.

When I try using the Format/Template, 'MainConcepts MPEG2 Blu-Print 1080-24p', and add in audio and uncheck elementary streams (this should combine audio+video in the same file, right?) Vegas gives me an unknown error after a few seconds of rendering. As long as I keep the elementary streams check box checked it will render beautiful video but the audio is in a separate file. I'd like to keep them in the same file (a new m2t), is this possible? What mistake am I making in the process?

Thanks,
Chad

Export captured m2t to m2t

Hi Chad,
I have tried to do the same procedure as you did (Vegas 7e): choose File -> Render As -> MainConcept MPEG-2 (*.mpg) with template Blu-print 1080-24p, include audio and uncheck the elementary streams checkbox. The rendering process finished without problems. My video is m2t with format PAL 1080-50i from Canon XH-A1. Maybe you could try another template for test purposes to see if this works (e. g. Blu-print 1080-60i).

Regards,
Axel

I was able to get audio+video using the 1080 60i however I had awful lines and blocky looking pixels in the video. The quality of the 1080 24p is exactly what I'm looking for, only lack sound :(. Could this be a Vegas bug?

Other's have mentioned that doing this (and me wanting to keep the video around for archival) that I'd be better off using something like Tmpg or HDSplit as it isn't destructive when editing/cropping the video so I guess I'll just go that route for now. I still wish I could get 1080/24p out of Vegas but the 720p is looking pretty good on the 50" Plasma and the file sizes are decent.
