Basically it has the shortcut function written on the key, and keys that access similar features are grouped by colour. Most of them are used by NLE (Non-Linear Editors) using applications like Final Cut and Premier although sound apps like Cubase and such can have thier own versions.

for instance

Those are stickers for existing keyboards, which is all the specialist ones are. Normal keyboards with coloured tops. Although bella do a nice one that has an integrated shuttle/jog for scrubbing and other duties.

So an editing keyboard just has all the short cuts marked on the keys?

Or is it alittle more complicated? I notice that there is a little dial where the arrow keys are...

By and large yes. Editing keyboards mearly have the short cuts printed on the keys.

And yes, bella do one that has a jog dial which saves the requirement for a separate jog dial.

http://www.bella-usa.com/DV.htm is probably the one you found.

Those boards are beneficial on programs like FCP/AVID or even Premiere. But for Vegas it really is not an issue since most people can cut on the time line versus having to constantly create edit points to add to the time line like the others. That is why there is a need for a left and right monitor.

Do you mean for Vegas, there is a need for left and right monitors?
