slow stuttering preview of mt2 and WMV?

Cineform works ok, but the others have a very slow stuttery preview at all settings, have a radeon 1650 with 512 and 1550 with 256 installed.

Any reasons why this may be?

Hvae tried ram set to 512 up to 1000 of 1024 available it seems better at 512 than 1000?

The stuttering is due to highly compressed file formats.

M2T files are arranged in what is called GOP's, short for Grup of Pictures. To view an M2T the program must read a full frame, then a series of intermediate frames showing changes only, and compute to see what the full frames would have looked like. This format saves lots of space, but takes some serious horsepower to display at real time.

That's why Cineform is there. I use it because it reads my incoming compressed stream, un compresses it, and creates an easy to work with AVI file. The AVI's are huge, but easy on the processor.

If you want to see exactly what is the bottleneck in your system, open the task manager, and watch the performance graphs while playing a preview. If the memory is above the ammount of physical RAM you have, you need more. If the Processor is pegged to 100%, there's your problem. If it is neither of those, well video card would be the only other place.

I just work with Cineform's connect HD, it makes everything much easier, not to mention if you are working with a compressed format, it can be impossible to make edits on the frames you want. Sometimes Vegas can be forced to snap to the nearest full frame, so just use the AVI's. Invest in some huge drives if you need more space for it.

Oh yea, drfrag your hard drive.... often. Video files can get fragmented real bad, and make your drive thrash all over trying to read it. A defragged drive is a happy drive.
