Is there a way to put a bunch of clips in Vegas that have different sound level, and set Vegas to auto level the audio tracks without doing each clip manually

Yung, you mean normalize?

Normalize in Vegas simply brings the "loudest" point to a specified volume level. It will NOT make several clips the "same volume". You might look at things like compressors to help accomplish this task.

I think he wants to equalize the RMS level. It's one of those things it should do, but it doesn't. Neither does any other NLE.

Take a look at Sound Forge then. It has more normalization options.

If you have Sound Forge, try the Wave Hammer plug-in (it works in Vegas, too.) I apply two instances of Wave Hammer to my entire master project (click the green icon next to the audio fader in the mixer window).

Turn the compressor off in both instances of Wave Hammer.

Go to the Volume Maximizer window in the first instance of Wave Hammer and set the output value to "0," (maximum volume). Then play with the input value until you pick up the quietest part of the dialog (or music, or whatever) you want to emphasize. This makes the quiet parts louder.

Then, go to the second instance of Wave Hammer and set the input value to "0" (maximum value) and set the output value to -6db. This acts like a limiter, making the loud parts quieter.

If you need more control over different portions of the project, you can also do this at the track level instead.
