Are you a fan of Lina Wertmuller ;)?

Jeff Sayre September 6th, 2006 09:07 AM

I leave for a couple of weeks and come back to see how life is accelerating at 2nd Unit!

Okay, here are some of my thoughts:

Grading America
This could be interpreted to have at least three apropo meanings--the socioeconomic grading of America, the inequities of the grading system for college admissions, and the grading of our nation in terms of immigrants, U.S. citizens, and education rights.

Rio de Papeles
In reference to your original working title, this refers to the many documents (papers) an immigrant must fill out to obtain the papers (documents) that will grant them a secure future in America. They must successfully navigate this river of papers. If they are undocumented, illegal immigrants, then the river of papers is a whitewater torrent that endangers their future in America.

Paper borders
Although undocumented immigrants face real border fences and other hazardous obstacles, the biggest obstacle they face is getting their papers--be it green card, drivers license, or diploma.

Diploma Diplomacy

Sheldon Blais September 6th, 2006 09:30 AM

"Paper Chasers"

"The Great Paper Chase"

"Diplomacy"

Meryem Ersoz September 6th, 2006 10:19 AM

oooo, jeff, i like "rio de papeles" but i think bob schneider already scooped you on "diploma diplomacy"...

how about "a matter of degree"

"it's not easy getting green"--or "it's not easy being green"

too cartoonish?

"greener pastures"--

"the grass is greener in the U.S.A." or some derivation of?

"this side, that side, which side are you on?"

barfing up titles left and right....

Yeah, I was almost expecting something like "Summer night with passionate search for the immigration papers" ;)

Thanks, Meryem!

I guess I forgot about Bob's suggestion after reading the three pages of posts--or maybe it is such a good title that it stuck in my mind.

Hey, I like the title "barfing up titles." It might not be relevant to the subject at hand, but it sure would be a good title for something.

"American Dreams Are Paper Thin" or "My American Dream Is Paper Thin" or "Paper Thin Hopes"

Jonathan Ames September 7th, 2006 08:24 PM

Gettin there, guys.

Bob Schneider September 8th, 2006 01:44 AM

" Crossing for Knowlege"

"The Knowlege Crossing"

"The Boundaries of Knowlege"

Bob

new ideas

"El PAPEL MOJADO" , which has an ironic twist 'cause the phrase "papel mojado"(meaning "wet paper") is used in spanish to signify that something is worthless, of no value.

other titles: "THE COVETED PAPER" or "CROSS THE RIVER, GET THE PAPER"
"BLOOD, SWEAT, AND PAPER"

Meryem Ersoz September 9th, 2006 03:42 PM

i know jeff suggested "paper borders" but how about something like "across the paper border" or "crossing the paper border" or "paper view"

(get it? pay per view? it doesn't mean anything special, just a stupid pun)

peter piper picked a peck o' pickled papers

"the star spangled border" "star spangled papeles"

"border of paper, border of steel"

Jaadgy Akanni September 9th, 2006 05:05 PM

Meryem u damn funny!

You got me cracking up over here...especially with the Peter Piper bit...hahaha great alliteration there!

Jaadgy Akanni September 11th, 2006 10:53 PM

The following titles would be great for Spanish Television:
1) "VIVIR POR EL PAPEL" (living for the paper)

2) "EL PAPEL VITAL" (the vital paper)

3) "EL PAPEL QUE DA VIDA" (the life-giving paper)

4) "EL PAPEL MAS IMPORTANTE" (the most important paper)

5) "LOS SUEÑOS SON DE PAPEL" (dreams are made of paper)

6) "ESPERANZAS DE PAPEL" (paper hopes)
