3D display. Is this right?

OK I was just about to pull the trigger on buying a Zalman 22 inch 3D monitor.
But on reading the 3D Movie Making book by Bernard Mendiburu, he states you can use an old tube technology monitor.

Is that right? Will it work like a 3D monitor? I thought the screen had to be polarised.

I never threw out my Liyama 19 inch monitor. It was really good and now resides in my loft. Worth dusting down? Or won't do the same job as the Zalman?

Thanks
Steve

Hi

I have SI2K 3d setup so I needed something to test 3d with so Zalman seemed like it fits the bill perfectly, yet the polarization works only about 2/3 of the screen with at a time so you need to move your head up/down to get full coverage. So it is kind of what you pay for.....

The tube monitor needs to support 120Hz refresh-rate, and you need active shutter glasses, like nvidia, but then you can buy some newer 22" LCD's that support 120Hz as well. I think you will have better 3d experience out of that.

My limitation was that I needed to use this screen connected SI2K DVR software and it cannot do 120HZ, plus I do my post on Mac so no support for NVidia shutter glasses.

Hope this helps a bit on the difficult choice....
