Haha that's awesome! I'll be 32 when that happens though :p

Hey, hey, spare a thought for those of us who will be closer to 50, 60, or 70 would ya!

I've thought of this and the only way I can imagine them pulling it off is by mapping video to x, y, z coordinates built up by a laser scanning grid of some sort. They already make movies with entirely CG environments by setting up massive green and blue screen rooms in wharehouses. Why not set up a wharehouse with low intensity lasers and cameras that record from multiple angles? I can't imagine this being a viable technology for "on the go" filming, though. Cameras will have to consist of a ccd or cmos and several lasers but at best you could build a holographic display with only one camera. No laser can see "around" an object.

The resulting video will actually be a 3d world that may not have to be calculated, if all the information for the opposite sides of objects already exists, simultaneously with what you are currently viewing.

SHEESH! My head hurts!

Researchers are looking into ultrasound, electric stimulation and wind pressure as potential technologies for touch.

Such a TV would have a wide range of potential uses.
I'm afraid to think about what some of those might be....

When will they learn that we DON'T want interaction!!!

If I see Neo getting punched in the face by Agent Smith, then I don't want to feel the punch and taste blood afterwards! >=D

Jack,

good view point, bet someone didn't think of that while they were writing the article...

on the other hand, we're almost talking about 'holodeck' technology here...if they can create 3d images that you can interact with, think of how this would affect the gaming world...

just imagine how real first person shooters would become - you're assualting the normandy beach in medal of honor, climbing over the dunes while you hear the bullets whipping past....or think about strategy games like the civilization series or railroad tycoon...now you could physically see the terrain or even ride along in the cab of the train as it travels across your empire...

even on an other note, think of using this for education...you could be right in the middle of the construction of the pryamids.

of course this is all dreaming, and til they develop it, its just a rumor
