A question for Charles Papert - Anton Bauer battery

Okay Charles, Since you won't visit my forum I'll have to post my questions here :) :

I've just ordered a Anton Bauer ProFormer Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) Battery - 14.4V/30WH. This is probably the cheapest model. Unfortunately the charger cost twice or three as more then the battery itself. Ridiculous I think. Any way, I cannot afford the charger at this point in time. I was thinking if I could get a 14v adapter, like a mobile phone and wire the Gold mount plate (I already have) to use this adapter or some sort that will plug right into a wall socket?

The idea is the battery will remain in the Gold mount and through my rewiring could connect this adapter to the plate. Something on the lines like a cd player, mobile phone, plugged into the wall to recharge. Thanks

Hi Charles:

I've stuck my head into your forum but really, I already spend too much time in here along for my own good! Absolutely nothing personal (and I know you are kidding around) but I gotta keep it to here and the steadicamforum.com, and that's already probably more than I should, time-wise!

Anyway, the setup you describe sounds a bit dicey to me--wondering about over-charging etc. Theoretically if it delivered a trickle charge you should be OK, but I wouldn't want to say for sure. Sorry I can't tell you one way or another.

You may want to look into the Dewalt batteries, they come in multiple voltages and are dirt cheap as are the chargers. I imagine you are already familiar with them, I would think someone is using them on a homebuilt stabilizer--they snap in and lock which makes them appropriate for rig mounting.

Thanks for responding. I was only kidding though. Free choice is a beautiful thing.

I'll talk to my electricain about it. I got th mount. I might as well use it. I'll find a way, always do.
