A Few Questions about a rod system

I have a GL2, I am planning on getting an adapter (M2) and Follow Focus to go with some lenses. What would be the best Rod System to get, and could I build it for a cheaper price(I have access to a machine shop for free!). Thanks

The M2 indie kit comes with the rod system.

Edit: oops, I realized you were considering the alternative option (instead of getting the one which comes with the M2). Sorry.

Adam,

I, too, have a GL2 and want a rod system. I found Cavision's miniDV camcorder rod system for about $160 off of B&H Photo. They have to special order the item, but I have done so and am awaiting its arrival.

I will let you know how this rod system performs and post pictures once I have used it.

If access to a machine shop, what are you waiting for!? You can custom make it to fit your needs EXACTLY! And for a 3rd of the price.

I would if I knew how to build one.

Dan you got any plans on how to build one? By the way when's the second book coming out?

I think I do. I have a shoulder mount in Volume 2, then thought why not make a multi-part system that allows the rails to come off the shoulder mount and use on a fluid head.

I'm simply not sure when the book will be available as it might be out of my hands. A big publishing house has contacted me about taking over the series, and they want to release the first edition of "Son of Killer Camera Rigs" along with the 3rd edition of "Killer Camera Rigs". We haven't worked out the details, so the whole thing may implode. If so, I'll have control over the release date. Right now most of the plans are with beta builders to make sure the instructions are easy to follow. The rigs are pretty complicated in Volume 2, so the beta testing is taking longer than usual. In short: I'm working on it!!!

Dan can you give us a hint of what is going to be in the next book?

Dan Selakovich October 26th, 2005 07:32 PM

Among other things: A full steadicam rig (with a very cool customized vest), a motorized Pan/Tilt head, a teleprompter, a dolly with wheels that crab, boom pole/w shock mount...

Most things will be harder to build than in Volume 1, but not at all impossible.

Trying to finish it, but there just aren't enough hours in the day!

Thanks for your hard work Dan.

Hey Dan
One question about the motorized head, I am assuming this head will fit on your cranes/jibs. I have to say, I'm pretty excited about your next book. Keep up the good work, because you make a lot of us look better.

Dan Selakovich October 31st, 2005 07:19 PM

Thanks! Yep, the motorized head will work on all the cranes in the book.
