MPEG files from HDV in PP CS2
 

I'm editing in PAL some material captured on HDV with a Z1.
I capture all in DV.

I need to capture some material in HD to work on Combustion.

Some time ago,I've used a friend Premiere Pro 1.5 with Cineform.
I used the AVI files without problem.

He moved to PP CS2 and now he captures HDV on a *.mpeg format.
Fore some strange reason, Combustion does not accept this .mpeg files.

I've tried to export from PP_CS2 in QT with Photo JPEG codec.
Combustion accepts them ok.

Is this the best solution?
Any advice on how to solve the mpeg incompatibility?

It might be because HDV uses an M2T transport stream instead of the "regular" MPEG program stream. I encountered the same problem trying to import HDV into VirtualDub. The solution for me is to convert the M2T files to MPEG using MPEG Streamclip.

Since you're trying to do special effects in Combustion (I assume), it's best to work with the highest quality source file - it might be beneficial for you to convert the M2T to MPEG with Streamclip and then decompress to uncompressed RGB using VirtualDub.

Premiere CS2 calls the HDV files xxxxx.mpeg and not xxxxx.m2t
Is the .mpeg realy transport stream?


I've used the option to export to QT - PhotoJPEG codec.
I get a nice picture quality.
Would you recommend another codec?

I've never worked a lot with QT. On my PC I always use AVI

I would like to avoid full uncompressed files.
For that I can also export to a TIFF sequence, but it's a LARGE amount of MB...

Premiere converts the transport stream to a program stream. Combustion doesn't seem to understand mpeg files at all. You could use uncompressed.
